The official start date for production on “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1″ must be rapidly approaching as a bunch of new actors were added to the cast Thursday (September 30). Feast your eyes on the members of the Denali coven — the other “vegetarian” group of vampires who are considered friends/allies of the beloved Cullens.
According to a news release from Summit Entertainment, Christian Camargo (“The Hurt Locker, “Dexter”) will play Spanish vampire and former member of the Volturi, Eleazar; Mia Maestro (“Alias,” “Poseidon”) has been cast as Eleazar’s multilingual mate, Carmen; Kasey LaBow (“Moonlight”) is Kate, sister to Tanya and blessed with the ability of producing powerful electric currents under her skin that she uses to shock enemies; and MyAnna Buring (“Doomsday”) will play Tanya, the head of the Denali coven who once had a crush on Edward.
The four “Dawn” newbies join recently announced fellow Denali coven member Irina, to be played by “Lost” actress Maggie Grace. Irina ends up bringing a bit of havoc upon the Cullen family when she vengefully reveals a secret to the Volturi.
One other new “Dawn” addition is Rami Malek (“The Pacific”) who joined the cast last month in the role of Egyptian vampire Benjamin, a young vamp blessed with the special ability of controlling the elements (à la Storm from X-Men), though he has yet to fully master his powers. He comes to help Bella and the Cullens battle the Volturi.
“I think it’s going to be great,” Rami told “ET” of his joining the cast last month. “It’s going to be super exciting, and I’m thrilled.”
Summit announced in June that “Breaking Dawn” would be divided into two parts; the first of the two films is scheduled to hit theaters November 18, 2011, and the second on November 16, 2012.

Arthur Penn, ‘Bonnie And Clyde’ Director, Dies

Pioneer, 88, ‘paved the way for the new generation of American directors,’ writer/director Paul Schrader says.By Kara Warner

Revolutionary theater, television and film director Arthur Penn died Tuesday at his home in New York City, just one day after celebrating his 88th birthday. The The New York Times reports that the director, perhaps most well-known for 1967′s “Bonnie and Clyde,” passed away from congestive heart failure.
The Times calls Penn “a pioneering director of live television drama in the 1950s and a Broadway powerhouse in the 1960s,” and praises his ability to develop an “intimate, spontaneous and physically oriented method of directing actors that allowed their work to register across a range of mediums.”
Penn was born on September 27, 1922, in Philadelphia. He began his career in television and made a name for himself in 1957 with the production of “The Miracle Worker,” adapted from the stage for television on CBS’ “Playhouse 90,” for which he earned an Emmy nomination.
Two years later, Penn took “The Miracle Worker” to Broadway, and he and star Anne Bancroft were awarded Tonys. In 1962, he directed the feature-film version with Bancroft, who went on to win the Oscar for Best Actress, alongside a young Patty Duke, who picked up a statue for Best Supporting Actress.
Penn also advised then-Senator John F. Kennedy during his debates with Richard Nixon in 1960 and directed the broadcast of the third debate.
All of these events led up to his most memorable work, directing Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway in “Bonnie and Clyde.”
“Arthur Penn brought the sensibility of ’60s European art films to American movies,” writer/director Paul Schrader told The New York Times. “He paved the way for the new generation of American directors who came out of film schools.”
Penn continued to work in film, television and theater with some of the biggest and brightest names in the business, though none of those projects reached the level of critical mass as “Bonnie and Clyde” had done. His last theatrically released film was the apartheid drama “Inside,” in 1996. Penn served as an executive producer on several episodes of “Law and Order” in his later years, followed by one of his final theatrical productions, “Fortune’s Fool,” which earned Tonys for Alan Bates and Frank Langella in 2002.
Penn is survived by his wife of 54 years, Peggy Maurer, a son, Matthew, a daughter, Molly, and four grandsons.

‘The Social Network’: The Reviews Are In!

Critics rave about the ‘sizzling ethical-dramatic question’ that drives David Fincher’s latest.By Eric Ditzian

Justin Timberlake in “The Social Network”

Photo: Sony Pictures

Facebook was recently valued at $33 billion. The movie about its founding should do about .09 percent of that total during its opening weekend at the box office, and Sony will be damn happy about it.

The studio is currently low-balling box-office estimates — all the better to manage expectations and post-opening buzz for a flick getting near-universal rave reviews — but experts suggest “The Social Network” could potentially flirt with the $30 million mark. David Fincher’s film is currently standing at 98 percent approval on the Rotten Tomatoes review aggregator, making it one of the year’s critical darlings, just a notch below “Toy Story 3.” Will positive word-of-mouth carry the movie past the mid-$20 million range and into the glorious $30 million realm?
Here’s what the critics are saying. What will you be saying after the weekend?
The Story
“The creators of ‘The Social Network’ — screenwriter Aaron Sorkin (‘The West Wing’), whose dialogue here is so sharp it could slice ribbons, and director David Fincher (‘Zodiac’) — have something tricky and emotionally complex up their sleeves. The story of how Zuckerberg put Facebook together, one Silicon Valley bong bash and venture-capitalist powwow at a time, is intercut with a pair of deposition hearings in which he faces down the two parties he ostensibly screwed over. The Winklevoss twins, Cameron and Tyler (both played by Armie Hammer, with body-doubling by Josh Pence), are super-WASP Harvard crew champions who accuse Zuckerberg of ripping off their idea for a website that will allow Harvard students to interface with one another. Then there’s Zuckerberg’s partner, CFO and only friend, Eduardo Saverin (Andrew Garfield), whom he ultimately leaves out in the cold. The sizzling ethical-dramatic question that drives ‘The Social Network’ is: Why did Zuckerberg betray these people? Or, in fact, did he really? — Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly
The Performances
“The script is filled with sharp, intense, witty writing, much of it performed at a thrilling rat-a-tat pace and played with sustained power. [Jesse] Eisenberg is at once furtive and bold and always unrepentant, Garfield is level-headed and decent, Hammer is very funny (and flawlessly rendered into two characters by Fincher), and [Justin] Timberlake, an increasingly impressive actor, has a merry time with his gladhanding jetsetter. Watch, too, as Douglas Urbanski steals a scene gloriously as Harvard president Larry Summers.” — Shawn Levy, The Oregonian
The Director
“It’s easy to see why the meticulous, technically gifted Fincher is drawn to Zuckerberg and the challenges of his story, and working from Sorkin’s best script yet, Fincher has struck perfectly the balance between calculated and human filmmaking. No single moment of the film stands out as a showstopper, but the cumulative effect of all the skill and talent on display here is devastating by the end, as we’re allowed to piece together for ourselves what this small story means for all of us.” — Katey Rich, CinemaBlend
The Dissenters
“If it is true that ‘The Social Network’ defines the decade, as an ad blurb states, then that’s just an accident of its shortcomings. We need to look deeper: It inadvertently defines an era when subterfuge and reprehensible behavior are accepted as a social norm — especially if it proves lucrative. No wonder mainstream media minions have flipped for ‘The Social Network’; they recognize the fiat of technological privilege.” — Armond White, New York Press
The Final Word
” ‘The Social Network’ is a great film not because of its dazzling style or visual cleverness, but because it is splendidly well-made. Despite the baffling complications of computer programming, Web strategy and big finance, Aaron Sorkin’s screenplay makes it all clear, and we don’t follow the story so much as get dragged along behind it. I saw it with an audience that seemed wrapped up in an unusual way: It was very, very interested.” — Roger Ebert, The Chicago Sun-Times

Fantastic Review: Hatchet 2

Watching films at Fantastic Fest can be described in a lot of ways. For me personally, I generally walk into every single film playing there with no idea what it’s about, or even what language it’s in. This is, of course, completely untrue when it comes to Hatchet 2, which is exactly why I skipped the Fantastic Fest screening to watch Rubber instead. Thankfully there was an LA screening and interviews set up, so I flew back to town to rock and roll with that. Now you’re lucky enough to hear my thoughts on it. In 2006 writer-director Adam Green unleashed Victor Crowley on the world in the 80′s slasher film love letter Hatchet. A straight up throwback to a better, simpler time where gigantic men in masks beat, cut, slashed, pounded, and ripped young adults into much smaller pieces in amusing ways. Four years later Green has returned to the swamps of Louisiana, picking up approximately one second after the events of the first film. Seriously, if you haven’t seen the first flick, make sure to check it out before heading into theaters this October to watch the unrated film on the big screen thanks to AMC. Hatchet 2 makes no bones about what it is: an ensemble film of familiar faces gathered together to meet eclectic deaths at the hands of Victor Crowley (Kane Hodder). Gone is Tamara Feldman, the Marybeth of the original, replaced by genre mainstay and still rising star Danielle Harris. While Harris may be a touch [...]

Tyler Clementi Suicide Spurs Ellen DeGeneres, Ciara To Speak Out

‘Four lives lost is a crisis,’ DeGeneres blogs, referencing recent teen suicides.By Mawuse Ziegbe

Ellen DeGeneres

Photo: Mark Sullivan/ Getty Images

The tragic wave of suicides among young people who have been targeted because of their sexuality has prompted several celebs to speak out against bullying.
In recent weeks, teens such as Rutgers University student Tyler Clementi and 13-year-old Seth Walsh have taken their lives after enduring taunts and humiliating incidents regarding their sexual orientation. Blogger Perez Hilton and several gay activists have spoken out against teen bullying, and columnist Dan Savage has started the YouTube channel “It Gets Better” to offer support, urging LGBT youth not to resort to suicide for relief from vicious teasing.
A diverse range of celebs also have blasted bullying and implored young people who have suffered abuse at the hands of their peers to maintain hope.
Media personality and former MTV VJ La La Vazquez teamed up with R&B star Ciara for a YouTube video offering support to young people affected by bullying.
“If you’re gay, bisexual, transgender, I know it can be tough in high school dealing with people who might not understand who you are,”
Vazquez says in the clip. “We just want to let you know that it does get better. We were in high school once, and we know how mean people can be who just don’t understand certain things.”
“You gotta know that your life is in your hands; you determine your destiny,” Ciara adds. “You’re in total control. You determine where things can go — where they can start, where they can stop. It starts with you, and it really does get better.”
Jay Manuel from “America’s Next Top Model” also made a video, explaining to teens that regardless of their current situation, the future is bright.
“I’m 38, and I can tell you, it does get better,” he says. “It’s not easy in high school; I don’t think anybody has it easy.
“People are gonna call you names, they’re gonna make you feel bad about yourself, but at the end of the day, we go off and do our own things, and you really do control your destiny. When someone calls you a name and they call you gay and they call you queer or whatever they call you, remember that at the end of the day, you can go off and be a success all on your own.”
Hilton had been tweeting several high-profile names in recent days to get involved in the “It Gets Better” initiative, and Good Charlotte rocker Joel Madden responded with a link to the band’s anti-suicide video “Hold On.” Madden also pledged to make a personal video message.
“One Tree Hill” actress Sophia Bush also took to Twitter to express her concern about the ongoing bullying issues among young people.
“Anyone out there who thinks being a bully makes you cool? Wake up. It makes you a LOSER,” tweeted Bush, who created the Twitter account @MissUSethWalsh in honor of the late teen. “Cool means doing good things for people. ALL people.”
Openly gay talk show host Ellen DeGeneres maintained that bullying is an issue that affects more than just the young people lobbing insults and getting hurt in the melee, and urged everyone who is able to make a difference to get involved.
“One life lost in this senseless way is tragic. Four lives lost is a crisis,” DeGeneres blogged Thursday (September 30), referencing the suicides of Clementi and Walsh as well as Texas teen Asher Brown and 15-year-old Billy Lucas from Indiana.
“And these are just the stories we hear about. How many other teens have we lost? How many others are suffering in silence? Being a teenager and figuring out who you are is hard enough without someone attacking you.
“My heart is breaking for their families, their friends and for a society that continues to let this happen. These kids needed us. We have an obligation to change this,” she continues. “There are messages everywhere that validate this kind of bullying and taunting and we have to make it stop. We can’t let intolerance and ignorance take another kid’s life.”
DeGeneres closes her note with a sentiment echoed by many other
celebs: “Things will get easier, people’s minds will change, and you should be alive to see it.”
MTV’s ongoing “A Thin Line” project provides stories and resources for anyone who believes they are being cyberbullied or who is looking for ways to stop harassment by digital means.

‘Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ Adds Christopher Plummer To Cast

Oscar-nominated actor will play wealthy uncle of missing girl.By Eric Ditzian

Christopher Plummer

Photo: Joe Scarnici/Getty Images

Could it have really been anyone else?
Christopher Plummer has signed on to play the haunted patriarch of the Vanger family in “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” a casting move that seems a perfect marriage between actor and material.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Plummer, an Oscar nominee for last year’s “The Last Station,” had joined “Dragon Tattoo,” an adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s thriller that will be directed by David Fincher.
Plummer will play Henrik Vanger, the wealthy uncle of a teen girl who goes missing in the 1960s. Consumed for decades by the cold case — Was she murdered? Did she run away? — he hires a disgraced journalist named Mikael Blomkvist to attempt to finally find some answers. Blomkvist, in turn, hires Lisbeth Salander, a troubled, tough-minded computer hacker — and the girl with the titular body art — to help him. As sketched out by Larsson, Vanger is a shrewd, powerful old man obsessed with a murder that may never have occurred. He is a born storyteller and master manipulator, and the reader is never sure if he can be trusted — even as he somehow becomes a likeable fellow.
The formidable Plummer joins a rapidly growing cast. Daniel Craig plays Blomkvist and Rooney Mara beat out a slew of other candidates for the role of Salander. Robin Wright won the part of Blomkvist’s business partner and lover, Erika Berger, while Stellan Skarsgård portrays Martin Vanger, the brother of the missing girl.
Filming has already begun in Sweden. Initially there had been speculation that Fincher would shoot the adaptation of the book’s sequel, “The Girl who Played With Fire,” at the same time as “Dragon Tattoo,” but Fincher told MTV News back in July that wouldn’t be the case.
“No, there’s no plans for that right now,” he said. “You got to make one that people want to see a sequel to before you can make a sequel.”

‘Mission: Impossible IV’ Cast Adds Josh Holloway

‘Lost’ star reportedly set to join Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner in 2011 installment of spy franchise.By Kara Warner

Josh Holloway

Photo: Alberto Rodriguez/ Getty Images

The heavily hyped cast of “Mission: Impossible IV” has added another star to its beefy roster: “Lost” actor Josh Holloway.
Holloway is reportedly in final negotiations to play a member of the Impossible Mission Force, the high-tech and top-secret task force headed up by Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This will be the first big feature-film role for the “Lost” star, who is best known for playing broody antihero Sawyer on the ABC series.
Holloway joins a band of high-profile actors on the Brad Bird-directed film. In addition to Cruise and Holloway, the cast includes Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton and Vladimir Mashkov, as well as returning “Mission” co-stars Ving Rhames and Simon Pegg. The production is supposed to begin shooting sometime this fall and filmmakers are currently scouting locations in Vancouver, Prague and Dubai. Paramount announced earlier this year that “M:I 4″ will open on December 16, 2011.
While the production has already weathered a few storms, Cruise has been vocal about his commitment to bringing new talent to the franchise.
“My whole thing with the series is always having a new director come on and put their stamp on ‘Mission: Impossible,’ ” he told MTV News this summer. “Brian De Palma was first, then John Woo, J.J. Abrams and now Brad Bird, so it will be Brad Bird’s ‘Mission: Impossible.’ ” Regarding his thoughts on the story line — which is, of course, very much under wraps — Cruise said simply: “It’s sick. It’s fun, really fun.”
Pegg reacted to the latest casting news via an enthusiastic Twitter “conversation” with “Lost” executive producer Damon Lindelof.
Lindelof wrote: “Okay. They had me at Brad Bird. But now? I am TOTALLY IN”
To which Pegg responded, “I think I just squeed in my pants!”

Steven Spielberg Advised ‘Let Me In’ Director

Legendary filmmaker suggested Matt Reeves listen to child actors.By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Kodi Smit-McPhee in “Let Me In”

Photo: Overture Films

There is a moment in the new horror flick “Let Me In” when a local policeman goes in search of a young girl named Abby, who he believes is connected to a series of grisly murders. As he walks into her apartment, he steps on one of the toys that she and her friend Owen had been playing with moments before.
It’s a small yet redolent moment: The cop has missed her for now, this young girl with a horrifying secret whom the audience has come to care about so deeply. It turns out the moment was neither part of the shooting script nor one of director Matt Reeves’ ideas. It sprung from the mind of then-13-year-old Kodi Smit-McPhee, who plays Owen.

“I was like, ‘That was a great idea,’ ” Reeves told MTV News recently.
“And we did it. With kids, you have to be open to what they bring.”
That’s a lesson Reeves learned from none other than Steven Spielberg, who’s directed child-actor-centric films like “ET,” “Empire of the Sun” and “Hook.” The directors were brought together by J.J. Abrams, who produced Reeves’ “Cloverfield” and is working with Spielberg on “Super 8,” an upcoming film shrouded in mystery.
“[Spielberg] had seen ‘Cloverfield,’ and he was very, very complimentary,” Reeves said. “I asked J.J., ‘Do you think Spielberg would talk to me … about directing kids?’ And he was like, ‘Yeah, of course. I’ll ask him.’ I met with him, and I was like, ‘Oh, this is cool.’ ”
Reeves remembers Spielberg coaching him: “He said, ‘The thing about it is you have to let them bring themselves to it. When you go in a room, say, “OK, this is your room. Where would you go? What would you do?”
Let them bring it. I’m telling you, that’s where the gold is.’
“Because they actually are the ages of the characters, you’re remembering what it was like to be 12,” he continued. “They are 12.
That was the big thing.”
The result of this advice was an environment of open collaboration in which Smit-McPhee (who starred in “The Road” last year) and co-star Chloe Moretz (who plays Abby and made a name for herself in
“Kick-Ass”) were free to contribute ideas each day. Many of those ideas, like the toy one, made it into the final picture.
“Directing them was really playful, just learning to try and see through their eyes,” Reeves said.

Fantastic Review: Legend of the Fist

After avenging his slain teacher, kung-fu master Chen Zhen finds himself a marked man. He enlists in the army as a means of escape and ends up in Europe during WWI; serving as part of a suicide squad assigned to deliver ammunition to the front line. When one of his friends dies in combat, Chen Zhen decides to assume his identity and return to his homeland; falling steadily to foreign influence which is ultimately subverting its culture and history. When the tyrannical Japanese government releases a list of detractors that it intends to silence–a death list–Chen Zhen can no longer idle quietly in his comfortable assumed life. He adorns a disguise and sets out to save the patriots of his beloved country before they become the discards of revolution. Legend of the Fist is currently trading blows with I Saw the Devil for the title of my favorite film of this year’s fest. It is fast, glossy, and unstoppably entertaining. It is a classical martial films infused with an unexpected superhero flair. Much like Ip Man, and possibly more so, Legend of the Fist draws much of its strength from brutal, highly-kinetic fight sequences. The addition of the Kato mask and the 1920′s set pieces generously peppered the film with high genre concept that ultimately sets it apart from the other Yen films dealing with this universe. Donnie Yen, this year’s festival gadfly, continues his current spate of films in which he portrays ostensibly the same character. Chen Zhen in [...]

Justin Timberlake Says ‘The Social Network’ Will ‘Split’ Moviegoers

JT says his friends got into a heated Facebook discussion ‘without me … steering the conversation in any way’ after a screening.By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Vanessa White Wolf

Justin Timberlake in “The Social Network”

When “The Social Network” opens this weekend, moviegoers are likely to leave the theater divided about who’s in the wrong and in the right in the David Fincher-directed flick about the founding of Facebook. Its star, Jesse Eisenberg, defended founder Mark Zuckerberg to MTV News, and now another one of the movie’s stars, Justin Timberlake, is weighing in on the polarizing subject.
“There was a screening in Los Angeles and my friends were very excited to see this film and I was excited that my own friends were excited to see a film that I was in, so I scored some tickets for the screening,” Timberlake recalled. “And I took all of them and it was about eight of us so we carpooled and caravanned in two cars. When we walked out, we all went to get some dinner afterwards and immediately the conversation just started.”

Kelly Rowland Responds To Kanye West’s ‘Power’ Lyric

‘To hear him say that, I was just kinda blown away,’ Rowland says.By Mawuse Ziegbe

Kelly Rowland

Photo: Evan Agostini/ Getty Images

As a founding member of one of the biggest girl groups ever, Destiny’s Child, one would think that Kelly Rowland is used to getting attention. However, a lyric in Kanye West’s single “Power” has brought the Grammy-winning star even more shine than she bargained for.
“The system broken, the schools closed, the prisons open/ We ain’t got nothin’ to lose, Motha—-er, we rollin’/ Huh? Motha—-er, we rollin’/ With some light-skinned girls and some Kelly Rowlands,” ‘Ye spits on the track. In an interview with Complex.com, the R&B diva said the line from the popular song has even changed how her pals approach her.
“My friends sometimes greet me like that now, which is really weird,” Rowland giggled, after reciting the lyric her homegirls apparently start spitting when they meet up with the singer.
As far as West, Rowland said she was taken aback by the shout-out, which pegs her as a standard of beauty. “To hear him say that, I was just kinda blown away. Dang, no pressure, Kanye,” Rowland quipped.
Of course, ‘Ye isn’t the first lyricist to look to Rowland to lend some sizzle to a project. The singer appeared in 50 Cent’s 2009 video “Baby by Me” as a devoted, yet still crazy glamorous, housewife raising a brood of mini 50s. Before the video dropped, Fif explained to MTV News that he coaxed Rowland into appearing in the clip at the last minute because he felt she brought the star power he needed for the Before I Self Destruct visual.
“Kelly was getting ready to fly back to Miami. I was lucky enough to catch her. I kinda begged my way into her doing it,” 50 said. “I didn’t want to do the normal video situation, where you have the vixen or somebody no one knows from anywhere. I think it intensifies the whole song.”

New Kanye West Track, ‘Lost In The World,’ Leaks Online

Song samples Bon Iver and Gil Scott-Heron.By Jayson Rodriguez

Kanye West

Photo: Michael Buckner/ Getty Images

A third track from Kanye West’s forthcoming album, tentatively due November 22, leaked online Wednesday morning (September 29). The haunting “Lost in the World” samples Bon Iver’s “Woods” and includes lyrics the rapper recited during a visit to Rolling Stone magazine that was posted on YouTube.
“Lost in the World” follows “Power” and “Runaway.” The latter was also recited by West at the RS offices and premiered during the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards.
Like the previous two tracks, “Lost in the World” features weightier lyrics from ‘Ye than the material he’s been releasing weekly as part of the G.O.O.D. Fridays series on his blog.
The new song is topped off with the vocals from Gil Scott-Heron’s fiery spoken-word number “Comment #1.”
On the Auto-Tune heavy track, West harmonizes on the chorus an interpolation of Bon Iver’s “Woods”: “I’m lost in the world, been down my whole life, I’m new in the city, but I’m down for the night.”
“You’re my devil, you’re my angel,” he begins the song. “You’re my heaven, you’re my hell/ You’re my now, you’re my forever/ You’re my freedom, you’re my jail/ You’re my lies, you’re my truth/ You’re my war, you’re my truce/ You’re my questions, you’re my proof/ You’re my stress, you’re my masseuse.”
The track clocks in at just under six minutes and features a number of musical changes throughout the production. The song starts off faintly with the Bon Iver vocoder-tinged sample before pulsating drums pick up the tempo. Midway through, however, the song slows down to a measured tempo as Scott-Heron’s vocals fire through the beat.
“Who will survive in America,” Scott-Heron’s voice chants over and over before the song ends with a mild hand-clap.

Courtney Love Gets Animated in New Short Film

Making for quite the interesting project, Courtney Love is featured in a new six-minute animated short created by Michael Mouris called “The Dark Night of the Soul.”
Put together in six months with only a $5,000 budget, the short follows Miss Love’s transformation from grunge poster-girl to Birkin bag toting elegance.
Of working with the “Hole” singer, Mouris told WWD, “The only notes she gave me were to take the fan out of Karl Lagerfeld’s hand and to give Andre Leon Talley a cape. Other than that, I think I had free reign.”
Never one to hold back with her words, Courtney said, “One of the stills was photographed after I had the best sex of my entire life.”
Expanding further on the creation of the video, Michael said, “My process is called pixilation, which is animated with stop-motion, but uses real people instead of puppets. All of the images come from photographs. I hire actors to play the parts, photograph them in stop-motion and then I collage the photographs.”

‘Mission: Impossible IV’ Cast Adds Josh Holloway

‘Lost’ star reportedly set to join Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner in 2011 installment of spy franchise.By Kara Warner

The sighting comes as RiRi readies to release her “Only Girl In the World” video on Wednesday, September 29th.
The Barbadian beauty is also gearing up for the release of her new album titled “Loud,” on which fans will find a song featuring Canadian musician Drake.
Of the tune, Drake told MTV, “I just did this great song,. I don’t know if I’m supposed to talk about it. I just did this great song with Rihanna; hopefully we can do a video for it. I’m really excited about that.”

Sally Menke, Quentin Tarantino’s Film Editor, Dies At 56

Her body was found in a Los Angeles ravine after she didn’t return home from a hike.By Kara Warner

Sally Menke

Photo: Frederick M. Brown/ Getty Images

Academy Award-nominated film editor Sally Menke died Monday allegedly from complications suffered while hiking in the extreme heat in Los Angeles.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Menke, 56, and a hiking buddy set out around 9 a.m. to hike a trail in Bronson Canyon, and an hour later, Menke’s partner decided to turn back. Menke and her Labrador retriever continued on. When she did not return home, Menke’s friends and family alerted local authorities late that afternoon that she was missing.
Shortly thereafter, a search party was sent out that included dogs, an LAPD helicopter and officers from patrol units, who spent hours in Griffith Park searching for her.
Menke’s body was found just after 2 a.m. Tuesday (September 28) at the bottom of a ravine near the 5600 block of Green Oak Drive in Bronson Canyon. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, her dog was sitting next to her body, which was about a football field’s length from nearby homes.
The cause of death has not been reported, although sources familiar with the investigation told the Times they believe Menke became disoriented and collapsed and the weather conditions contributed to her death.
Menke was a longtime friend and editor for Quentin Tarantino, having edited all his films, as well as “All the Pretty Horses” for director/actor Billy Bob Thornton.
Tarantino, who was scheduled for a roast at the Friars Club on Friday, has reportedly canceled the event due to Menke’s death.

Box Office: Greed is Lacking

While the Fantastic Fest festivities continue in Austin, the real world, the one not waiting on the edge of its collective seat to see Tim League get punched in the face by Michelle Rodriguez, carries on. With it, the Hollywood box office and all the money it made this weekend. It wasn’t as profitable a weekend as was anticipated, but something had to come out on top. This weekend, Michael Douglas, Oliver Stone, and The Beouf were able to soar higher than those 3-D owls. While it wasn’t able to pull in $20+ million this weekend, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps was able to give Oliver Stone his biggest opening to date. It’s also the second highest opening for a film featuring Michael Douglas and the highest opener he’s had in the lead. It didn’t live up to potential, but it’s hard to throw the “bomb” label at Wall Street. $19 million is a respectable opening even if Shia LaBeouf has had better days. Zack Snyder’s name wasn’t able to pop the Owls of Ga’Hoole into the heavens. A $16.3-million opening might now sound all that bad, but it should be noted this is the lowest opening for a wide release concurrently released in IMAX since 2006′s Ant Bully, not exactly the animated comparison Warner Brothers was going for here. It’s Snyder’s worst opening as a director, so his days in the kiddie world might be at its end. You can rest assured his next films will be full of [...]

Fantastic Review: Man on a Mission

For $30 million, you can visit space. You will have to urinate upside down, but there’s an incredible view. Video game pioneer Richard Garriott became one of a handful of civilians who made it past the wild blue yonder, fulfilling a life long dream of becoming an astronaut, following in his father’s footsteps, and helping to propel the idea of space travel heading into the private sector. Unfortunately, the documentary Man on a Mission has trouble telling an interesting story because it has to condense over a year into a normal run-time while focusing on a nice enough man who’s not exactly a compelling figure. The biggest issue with the movie is that it’s an overt vanity exercise. It’s mildly intriguing to watch one man’s journey toward space – the process is a severe commitment which requires extensive language, scientific and physical training. However, the movie does more to show him speaking his journal entries and thoughts about the process than to show directly the interesting parts that might make a space nerd’s heart beat faster. Even when on the International Space Station, there are shots of Garriott showing particular sections, explaining why they are interesting and then not displaying it. In a way, it all seems like the slide show that they played at the middle school graduation – so much so that I expected to hear Green Day’s “Time of Your Life” playing at some point. There are some touching moments, but nothing beyond a casual sweetness. Garriott’s [...]

‘Wall Street 2′: The Reviews Are In!

Critics are divided, but one praises Oliver Stone sequel as ‘urgent and strangely necessary.’By Eric Ditzian

Michael Douglas and Shia LaBeouf in “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps”

Photo: 20th Century Fox

Twenty-three years ago, Oliver Stone’s “Wall Street” finished third at the weekend box office, losing out to “Throw Momma From the Train” and “Three Men and a Baby.”
Times, and tastes, have changed. Stone’s sequel, “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps,” is likely to nab this weekend’s top box office slot. No matter that critics have not exactly been kind to the film since its Cannes opening in May, after which Stone was said to have headed back into the edit room in search of a new cut. What he found there should be enough to dispatch the animated owls of “Legend of the Guardians” and secure Stone his first #1 opener since 1999′s “Any Given Sunday.”

Here’s what the critics are saying:
The Story
“Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas, sly and purry as ever) walks away from jail in the movie’s 2001 opening scene, brick-like cellphone in hand. Seven years pass and he’s back on top, with a new book (‘Is Greed Good?’) and untold millions. But the money can’t buy what he wants: a relationship with his estranged daughter Winnie (Carey Mulligan). She lives with her boyfriend Jake (Shia LaBeouf), an up-and-coming young trader who hears Gekko speak and is enamored by his message. Drawn into Gekko’s orbit — the older man hopes to use the younger as a conduit to Winnie — Jake gets caught up in the world of deal making, not necessarily to his benefit.” — Moira Macdonald, The Seattle Times
The Performances
“Douglas is terrific, and he’s joined by fellow heavyweights Josh Brolin, Eli Wallach and Frank Langella as rival financial titans. But the movie belongs to LaBeouf. Stone loves to show us the convoluted world through the lens of a young striver still clinging to antiquated ideals. LaBeouf’s shark-in-training manages to keep all of the balls in the air with a winning performance that balances moral wranglings with love and ambition.” — Clint O’Connor, The Cleveland Plain Dealer
The Director
“Using an ingeniously layered visual design, split screens and sinuous mobile cameras that move through scenes like the human sharks who inhabit them, Stone here proves that he’s still a director of bold muscularity. If some of his references hit too squarely on the nose — the shot of a child’s soap bubble standing in for the metaphoric financial version, for example, or the vaguely fascist corporate insignia of a malign CEO played by Josh Brolin — Stone has a knack for pacing, detail and atmosphere that manages to feel authentic and fancifully allegorical at the same time.” — Ann Hornaday, The Washington Post
The Dissenters
“This time around, the team does show occasional flourishes of the original’s snap and urgency. However, it’s nearly impossible to stay invested in a narrative stuffed with pliable characters whose actions fail to stay true to their natures. That’s particularly glaring in a climax that ties everything up with a hunky-doryness that should have been liquidated faster than a risky hedge fund.” — Randy Myers, San Jose Mercury News
The Final Word
“The movie’s punch-drunk energy can’t quite make up for what, without giving away any plot points, I can only describe as a third-act lapse into maudlin sentimentality. By the film’s last frame, Gordon Gekko has gone from evil to sympathetic to ambiguous so many times that we no longer trust any twist involving him. But thanks in no small part to Michael Douglas’ evident joy in playing the role, Gekko has now become one of those characters, like ‘The Big Lebowski’ ‘s Dude, who no longer needs a movie to sustain him. Oliver Stone’s account of the events of 2008 is as unsubtle in its charms as Gordon Gekko himself. But like Gekko, the film also feels urgent and strangely necessary.” — Dana Stevens, Slate

The Reject Report: Money Never Sleeps

Greed is good. Greed is legal. Yeah, we’ve heard all that malarkey before, and it’s obvious. Why else would studios release their films on more than 3000 screens in one weekend? That almighty coin that keeps Hollywood turning and those glorious things we call motion pictures hitting left and right ad nauseum. We’ve got two such films this weekend and two that aren’t opening quite as big. Both of the biggies are pulling in hype based around their respective brand loyalty, but they each have something new to offer, as well. It’s Shia LaBeouf Vs. the talking owls here at the Reject Report. Let the best squawker win. BIG HITTERS Neither Oliver Stone nor Michael Douglas are pulling in much box office for Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. Between the two of them, the highest grossing opening weekend was the $21 million You, Me, and Dupree made. Not something to crow about. What you really need to look at here is one Shia LaBeouf. Even his non-tent pole films like Disturbia and Eagle Eye have been able to open higher than anything Stone or Douglas have come out with. The LaBeouf factor mixed with the brand recognition coming from the Wall Street name alone should help the film’s numbers immensely. Look for Stone and Douglas to have their highest openings this weekend. To see the “greed is good” principal in action, check out the trailer for Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps right here, and take your ’80s brick cell phone with you: Talking [...]

Shia LaBeouf Sees ‘Positives And Negatives’ To ‘Transformers’ Re-Casting

Megan Fox replacement Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is a ‘new set of eyes,’ actor says.By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Shia LaBeouf

Photo: MTV News

“Strange” is how Megan Fox describes the way she’ll probably be feeling when she hunkers down into her seat to take in Shia LaBeouf and “Transformers 3″ next summer. The 24-year-old actress was ousted from the production in a stunning turn of events in May, only to be replaced by Victoria’s Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

And while Fox told MTV News that she “might be a little jealous when I see somebody kissing my Shia,” LaBeouf acknowledged that there are both upsides and downsides to smooching with another actress while alien robots battle around them.
“I think there’s positives and negatives to her not being [in the movie],” said LaBeouf, who was at the Toronto Film Festival to promote “Wall Street 2.” “It’s awesome that we get the discovery again. I think when everybody’s vetted and everybody’s been through these wars, then that discovery of the first film is nonexistent. It’s kind of beautiful in that we get a new set of eyes, a fresh set of eyes for the audience to vibe with. So you get the discovery again, which is something that wouldn’t happen if Megan came back.”
Yet he still counts Fox as a good friend, and praised her turns in the first two “Transformers” flicks. As for Huntington-Whiteley, who will make her acting debut in the new film, LaBeouf said she’s “doing great,” though there’s little he could do to prepare her for the experience of working with famously fiery director Michael Bay.
“You can only do so much,” he laughed. “Fight or flight. A tap on the back and a ‘Good luck!’ ”
Check out everything we’ve got on “Transformers 3.”

Lil Wayne’s ‘Not A Human Being’ Video Dissected

‘He’s almost grown into a mythology now,’ director David Rousseau says.By Jayson Rodriguez

Lil Wayne

Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images

Lil Wayne’s otherworldly talents have inspired the rapper to dub himself “a Martian.”
And for his latest video, the title track to his forthcoming album I Am Not a Human Being, director David Rousseau explored the reference.

“It’s one of those things where you can interpret it like we’re trying to dissect who Lil Wayne is,” Rousseau told MTV News. “How does his mind work? He’s almost grown into a mythology now. He’s not even human. He’s like Michael Jordan. The way Michael Jordan dunks a ball wasn’t even human.”
The frenzied video features Lil Wayne and his glow-in-the-dark tattoos contrasted with images of written rhymes splashed across the screen.
Rousseau said the images were meant to provoke deeper thought into Wayne’s writing process.
Oftentimes, the director said, because of the rapper’s personality, the ideas of his lyrics aren’t fully comprehended.
“It’s just that dissection of the myth and the man, separating him from the lyrics,” he explained. “Because he’s one of those artists where people hang onto every lyric. He’s not just rapping about anything, you know? Read between the lines and find out what his message is about and stuff. It’s kind of pointing fans at doing that.
There’s a deeper meaning to what he’s rapping about, and you gotta get in there.”
A leaked version of the video hit the Web last week, but the complete “I Am Not a Human Being” clip was released Wednesday.

Fantastic Review: Rubber

?In Steven Spielberg?s ET, why is the alien brown? No reason. In Love Story, why do these two people fall madly in love with each other? No reason. In Oliver Stone?s JFK why is the president assassinated by a complete stranger? No reason.? And just like that, we begin the story of a tire that terrorizes a Midwest town by making people?s heads explode. A tire. That picks itself up from the desert floor and begins a wobbly journey of self discovery by crushing cans and bottles, exploding rabbits and birds, and maybe even falling in love with a lovely brunette in a Cabriolet convertible. Or maybe not. Point is, it?s a goddamn tire that makes people?s heads explode. Rubber, as described above, is about a newly sentient tire that begins to murder the local townsfolk with a Scanners-like ability of telekinetic head ?sploding. But it?s also not about that at all? it opens with the town sheriff talking directly to the camera, to the audience, and as is shortly revealed, to an audience in the movie itself. We?re told this will be an ?homage to ?no reason.? The most popular element of style.? So the audience within the film sits on a hillside with binoculars and watches as the tire begins life and becomes a murderer. It?s entertainment they?re after, and they?re hooked enough to spend the night without food and water for, well, no discernible reason. While the initial synopsis seems, at least tenuously, to lean the film [...]

Season-nine “American Idol” runner-up Crystal Bowersox is heading down the aisle. The singer’s rep confirmed to People that she’s set to swap vows with her musician beau Brian Walker in October.
The impending nuptials come just months after Bowersox broke up with her longtime boyfriend Tony Kusian in the hours before her final “American Idol” performance. The singer explained that her bourgeoning fame wedged the couple apart. Both agreed that Kusian, who helped raise her toddler son, would prefer a low-key lifestyle.
“He’s a small-town guy and that’s fine,” she told “Idol” host Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM radio program. “I’m a small-town girl, but I want this. I want this more than anything — this career, this lifestyle. I didn’t think he was up for it. He didn’t think he was up for it.”
In addition to her upcoming wedding, Bowersox has been working on her major-label debut on 19 Recordings Limited and Jive. The earthy singer inked a contract within a day of the season-nine “Idol” finale but she has recently voiced her issues with her mainstream deal.
“Just frustrated with the politics of the industry. Not just jive just dissapointing how the industry has changed,” Bowersox tweeted on Thursday. “Every1s hands are tied.”
However, she didn’t appear to let the music industry politics get her down, later adding, “regardless, im having the time of my life,” before revealing she was recording “Farmer’s Daughter.”
“Thanks for all of the support, guys,” Bowersox wrote to her Twitter followers. “I have more freedom than most signed artists, so imma stop complaining. I love what I do. I am blessed.”

Lindsay Lohan’s ‘Inferno’ Director Admits ‘Exasperation’

‘But there is a tremendous gift underneath all the obvious baggage,’ Matthew Wilder tells MTV News of jailed leading lady.By Kara Warner

Lindsay Lohan on set of “Inferno”

Photo: TylerShields.com

Lindsay Lohan’s return to jail on Friday (September 24) as a result of a probation violation has no doubt put another kink in the problem-plagued actress’ attempts to revive a once-thriving career. Specifically, production on the Linda Lovelace biopic, “Inferno,” which was set to begin filming in November, may be hampered by the ongoing legal troubles of its leading lady.
Still, “Inferno” director Matthew Wilder, who has been unyielding in his support for his star, said the show will go on — with Lohan.

“We love her. We want her to do well,” Wilder wrote in a statement e-mailed to MTV News. “We will make the picture shortly.”
Wilder added that the film will now shoot in Los Angeles instead of Louisiana, as was originally planned. “I think [it] will make things easier on the Lindsay front,” he said.
“I understand people’s exasperation,” Wilder admitted, referring to the former Disney darling’s string of questionable life choices over the last few years. “I share it. But there is a tremendous gift underneath all the obvious baggage.”
During Lohan’s hearing on Friday, Judge Elden Fox did not hear any testimony from Lohan’s lawyers before denying the 24-year-old “Mean Girls” star bail and ordering her to report to jail. Lohan was reportedly handcuffed in court before being taken into custody, meaning she could be behind bars until the next hearing in the case, scheduled for October 22.
According to the conditions of her post-rehab release, Lohan could spend 30 days in jail. She served 13 days of a 90-day jail sentence in July over a probation violation from a pair of 2007 DUI cases; she subsequently spent 23 days in a rehab facility, serving less than one third of her 90-day court-ordered sentence.
Are you surprised that Lindsay’s “Inferno” director is standing by her? Tell us in the comments.

Drake Says He’s Debating ‘Fancy’ Video Re-shoot

Drizzy tells MTV News he has a ‘way better idea’ for the clip, but may start fresh with ‘Show Me a Good Time.’By Jayson Rodriguez

Drake

Photo: MTV News

The last time Drake changed his mind about a music video at the last minute, his original idea for a sensitive clip for the ladies turned into the over-the-top “Best I Ever Had” visual directed by Kanye West.
This time, however, the Toronto lyricist insists his next video will be great, regardless of his temporary indecisiveness.

He’s debating whether to reshoot “Fancy” or commission a clip for his next single, “Show Me a Good Time.”
“We shot ‘Fancy,’ and to be honest with you, it was done and I watched it and I just had a way better idea,” Drake told MTV News earlier this week. “And that’s why the video hasn’t come out yet. And to follow up ‘Find Your Love’ and ‘Miss Me,’ I really wanted to do something different, conceptually, and so I had this amazing idea and now I’m debating whether I should reshoot it or go straight to ‘Show Me a Good Time.’ But there should be a new Drake visual in the next little bit.”
The Thank Me Later star said the “Fancy” clip was directed by Anthony Mandler (Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige, Rihanna), who also helmed “Over,” “Find Your Love” and “Miss Me” for Drake.
According to Drake, the two are deciding what to do next, and the rapper is enthusiastic about the forthcoming production, regardless of which song they decide to shoot.
“It’s something to look forward to,” he said. “I’m excited by it.”
Next up, Drake will appear in Rick Ross’ “Aston Martin Music” video.
Ross talked to MTV News about the clip earlier this month, saying the visual was “dope.”
“We were just going over treatments for ‘Aston Martin Music,’ ” Ross said. “We’re going to shoot the dope version: Drake’s going to be rapping his verse and Chrisette [Michele will be there] and most definitely me. We’re just finalizing all the details. We should be shooting that hopefully next week, so look for that real soon.”

Cat Fight: Jessica Simpson and Ken Paves!

Jessica Simpson and her star hairstylist Ken Paves have been BFFs for years, they even travelled the world together last year for their reality TV show “The Price of Beauty”, but lately we haven’t seen them together at all. We were wondering why, but now the rumors have started pouring in and so have the bitchy comments! It looks like Jessica has a bad habit of dumping Ken whenever she falls in love and then when the relationship ends she comes running back and it looks like Ken has had enough! As you know, Jessica is dating new man Eric Johnson and Ken does not approve. His friends say he thinks Eric is a user and is just with Jessica for her money and fame. They are also saying pretty hateful things about Jessica like “She doesn’t care about the world, only herself and “All she talks about is men, love and sex”. Ouch, but probably quite true!Jessica in return is being mean about the fact that Ken has been hanging out with Eva Longoria since he and Jessica “broke up” – her friends are saying that Ken is just with Eva for PR because he has a new range of hair products launching in the Latin countries and Eva will help with that. Johnny Knoxville Reportedly Ties The Knot

The ‘Jackass’ star weds girlfriend Naomi Nelson.By Mawuse Ziegbe

Professional prankster Johnny Knoxville has reportedly tied the knot. According to UsMagazine.com the “Jackass 3-D” star wed his longtime girlfriend, Naomi Nelson, on Friday. Life & Style reports that Knoxville popped the question to Nelson just days ago, with a 2.5-carat engagement ring from Los Angeles’ Platt Boutique Jewelry.
The nuptials follow the arrival of the couple’s first child together. Knoxville and Nelson welcomed son Rocko Akira Clapp last December. Knoxville, whose real name is Phillip John Clapp, also has a teenage daughter, Madison, from his marriage to ex Melanie Clapp.
Despite his career of pulling off outrageous stunts, Knoxville and new wife have mostly maintained a low profile, and the actor has said Nelson keeps him calm.
“I’m lucky enough to be with someone, and I am happy,” he told Knoxville.com. “I feel very lucky. I’m not out running around all the time. I don’t party as much as I used to. I’m not partying constantly and constantly battling myself. I’m with someone, and we are very, very happy.”
Knoxville’s next move is decidedly more outlandish than making it legal with his ladyfriend. The actor appears in the latest installment of the prank-packed hit series, “Jackass 3-D,” which lands in theaters on October 15. Even though he and “Jackass” pals like Steve-O and Bam Margera have been staging elaborate shenanigans for years, Knoxville revealed they still shot tons of footage for the upcoming flick.
“Man, we filmed so much stuff. So much great stuff got left out of the film because we just overshot,” Knoxville told MTV News earlier this month. He explained the cutting-room bits will be available on a DVD set to hit shelves by the holiday season. “That’ll be in ‘[Jackass] 3.5,’ coming out at Christmas.”

‘Eastbound And Down’ Cast Talks Marilyn Manson’s Cameo Bid

‘I think it’s fantastic,’ says executive producer Will Ferrell, while star Danny McBride has a bizarre acting tip for the rocker.By Kara Warner

If fans thought news of Marilyn Manson’s “Eastbound and Down” superfandom was surprising, then they may have been more shocked to learn that Manson is vying for a cameo on the zany HBO series. Manson told MTV News he’d like to step into the shoes of awkward-yet-eager sidekick Stevie (played by Steve Little). So we asked some of the folks attached to the show for their thoughts on Manson’s small-screen aspirations.

“Honestly, I’m honored,” the show’s executive producer/ writer/ director Jody Hill told us at the star-studded season-two premiere. “I saw Marilyn Manson open up for Nine Inch Nails when I was in high school in Winston-Salem, North Carolina,” Hill recalled. “So the fact that he’s heard of the Kenny Powers series is pretty awesome.”
We then informed Hill that Manson would love to play Stevie in some sort of guest role. “Really?” Hill laughed. “OK, great, I’d love that. He can play his brother.”
Series star Danny McBride, who plays Kenny Powers, had an alternative suggestion: “I imagine he could just cut [actor] Steve Little’s flesh off and wear it, and just kind of be him,” McBride offered, before adding that he had considered wearing a Manson-inspired getup himself. “I was going to come here dressed as Marilyn Manson but I pu–ied out at the last moment.”
“Eastbound” ‘s executive producers (and famed “Funny or Die” founders), Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, were similarly enthused about Manson’s enthusiasm. “I think it’s fantastic,” Ferrell told us.
Meanwhile, McKay seemed to suspect before anyone else did that the show would appeal to the “Beautiful People” singer. “I don’t want to say I took it for granted, but I gotta say the first episode of this I saw, I thought, ‘If Marilyn Manson doesn’t like this then we’ve done something wrong.’ ”
“Yeah,” Ferrell chimed in.
What do you think of Marilyn Manson being a big “Eastbound and Down” fan? Should he make a cameo? Let us know in the comments!

Coroner?s Report: Frozen Blu-ray

Coming to Blu-ray September 28th is director Adam Green’s follow-up to the pretty excellent 80′s inspired slasher Hatchet. His sophomore effort ditches the buckets of bloods, head rips, and disfigured villains (but keeps Kane Hodder) and instead opts for a more realistic thriller about a trio of friends stuck on a chairlift. Yeah, kind of like Open Water but you know, in a chairlift. Except there are no sharks. No, instead their are wolves. This is one of those titles that doesn’t lend itself amazingly well to the Coroner’s Report: with so few characters, there’s bound to be a low body count and with no sadistic inbred dude hiding in the woods, there won’t be much head cutting. Also, there are no boobs. But is it worth watching anyways? Kills I guess this is like a spoiler alert right off the bat, because if there are only three characters and I tell you two of them die, you’re going to guess at least one of them correctly. Probably both. Anyway, two people die. Ills With only two deaths the gore isn’t overwhelming, but it is pretty effective when it shows up. We get two broken legs, a lot of wolf violence, frost bite, a big chunk of ripped off skin, some cut up hands and we see the remains of one of the bodies the wolves used as a banquet. It is sufficiently gross and awesome. Lust While there is a cute girl in the movie, she’s wearing an entire [...]

Reel Movie Reviews: Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps

Among the more tragic things to witness in Hollywood is a filmmaker following up a branded classic with a sequel that just doesn’t match up. Even worse is when that film doesn’t even seem to be made by the same person. At least when Jack Nicholson made The Two Jakes, we couldn’t get angry at Roman Polanski for it. Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps is the kind of movie that doesn’t quite know what it wants to be. It’s clearly a sequel to Wall Street, but it’s so busy focusing on so many different things that the ultimate purpose of the project gets muddled. Is it a revenge tale? A cautionary tale? An expose about the continued evils of business or a torrid romance between a new liberal and a young republican? All of these things get touched on in Oliver Stone’s follow up to the film that birthed the infamous creed “Greed is Good,” but in trying to cover all those bases, it merely scratches the surface at any one thing. I don’t know what it is, but I just feel like Oliver Stone seemed more connected when he made the original; it had a purpose, a message to deliver about what was going on at the time, and it delivered that message with a swift slap across the face to the Wall Street wolves of the Reagan era. With the advent of our recent financial troubles, it would seem Wall Street 2 has an equally important message to deliver, but it just can’t seem to figure out what that is… or it’s got it all wrong.  Essentially the premise of the film begins in 2001 (pre-9/11) when Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas) is released from prison for the crimes he committed in 1987. With no one to pick him up from the pen, Gekko decides to get to work being a celebrity author and seemingly repent for his sins. Fast forward to 2008, where we land with Shia LaBeouf’s Jake Moore, a youngblood on the Wall Street fast track, who’s seriously dating Winnie (Carey Mulligan) estranged daughter of the infamous Gekko. Now, Winnie is clearly pissed at her dad for ruining her life, so she’s ultra-liberal and runs a blog and espouses her hatred for all things Wall Street… so why’s she shacked up with Jake? Maybe there’s a reason she’s always miserable. Jake is the protege of one Louis Zabel (Frank Langella), the head honcho at a Bear Stearns-type company. When the company is sent under, dispatching Zabel from not just the money game, Jake is left searching for a new father figure- one he finds in none other than, yup, you guessed it, Gordon Gekko. From there, it’s wheeling and dealing for Jake to get revenge on the devilish Bretton James (Josh Brolin) and Gordon to get back in favor with his daughter, with the help of the young Moore, of course. Performance-wise, it’s a mixed bag, but not necessarily because of lack of talent. LaBeouf is great when he becomes bullish, signaling the rite of passage from the pimply-voiced protagonist in robot-deuling kid flicks to the brass balls of manhood. The catch? He’s not always allowed to get there. The same goes with Carey Mulligan, who was rather luminous in the recent Never Let Me Go, but seems held back from really showing her stuff. Langella is wonderfully crusty, but gets the axe all too soon, and Josh Brolin does his best mustache-twirling as the clear-cut villain. And then there’s Gekko, who, after being the most nefarious corporate raider of the 80′s, spawning copycats who reveled in his big-chested speeches, completely ignoring the satire that was meant by them, is merely a shadow of the bad guy he used to be. But is he supposed to be a changed man or is he just the same old bastard he used to be? It’s never really clear what he wants. So this means we’ve got a deeper problem. Stone and scriptwriters Allan Loeb and Stephen Schiff seem way too preoccupied with keeping Gekko on the sidelines, sending him away for large portions of the film, and dipping their toes into the idea that prison might have changed him for the better. It almost seems like this sequel is apologizing for its predecessor’s creation of the greedy monster. It’s always tricky when you try to make the villain into a hero, but it simply doesn’t work here. Gordon Gekko is best enjoyed while in full asshole mode, and the film’s quest to make us sympathize with him because he’s trying (in trademark sharky ways) to reconnect with a daughter that hates him is an exercise in futility. Gordon just wasn’t meant to be that guy. We don’t want tarnished heroes, especially when they’re money-laundering dicks. Those people are supposed to get raped in prison, not become bestselling authors with family problems. Just like the new Gekko, the new Wall Street isn’t quite the movie it used to be, or should still be. Marginalized by a scattered self-image and exacerbated by a wayward Stone, yet slick and entertaining enough to satisfy those looking for something vaguely reminiscent of the original, it pales in comparison to the original. Maybe it’s time to drop the satire and go for the jugular: greed really isn’t good.

Lauren Conrad may have bid a fond farewell to “The Hills” in 2009, but LC is now ready to return to television. The “Laguna Beach” star confirmed to MTV News that she will star in a new MTV documentary reality program about launching her latest fashion line.
The show will follow Conrad as she works to launch a fashion house from the very beginning. “I am so excited to be rejoining the MTV family,” she told MTV News in a statement about her new television venture. “The new project will follow me as I develop my new contemporary line and also touch on my other businesses.”
Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun will be producing the new project, Conrad’s third show on MTV. “We are thrilled to be in business with a terrific young entrepreneur like Lauren,” they said in a statement. “It will be a lot of fun to be exploring her new work adventure with her.”
Conrad got her TV start in 2004 as the star of “Laguna Beach,” alongside Kristin Cavallari. Before long, Conrad moved to L.A. to pursue a career in the fashion world on her own spin-off show, “The Hills,” which premiered in 2006. LC documented her relationships, friendships and professional life until she left in 2009, saying goodbye as she drove off from onetime pal Heidi’s wedding to Spencer.
Since leaving the show, which wrapped production this year, she managed to build her brand, which includes the “L.A. Candy” book series as well as previous fashion collections, like her line at Kohl’s.

Katy Perry Shares Some Skit Ideas For ‘Saturday Night Live’ Gig

‘I brought my whipped-cream boobs,’ she says of possible props for her ‘SNL’ debut.By James Dinh

Katy Perry will serve as the musical guest on Saturday’s season premiere of “Saturday Night Live,” and if the singer has it her way, she’ll be able to showcase her acting chops in a sketch with “SNL” alum Amy Poehler and the rest of the variety-show gang.
“I’m excited to be on ‘Saturday Night Live,’ because I think it’s hilarious,” Perry told “Access Hollywood.” “I would stay up late after my parents would go to sleep and watch them. I’m hoping they will let me do a skit. I really want to do a skit. I brought my whipped-cream boobs, so if they do a sketch involving a barista — you know, coffee-making — I could be helping the people out.”
This isn’t the first time the pop star has expressed interest in doing a little improv with the “SNL” cast. Even before announcing her musical-guest duties, the singer tweeted, “Dear Amy Poehler can I please be your braced faced neighbor friend that hangs out with you & RICKKKKK!”
But if the soon-to-be wife of comedian Russell Brand doesn’t get a chance to crack a joke, she is ready to put her all into her performances. “This summer has been so fantastic for me, so I wanted to come back with a bit of an end-of-summer celebration singing ‘California Gurls’ and ‘Teenage Dream,’ ” she told “Access Hollywood.” “I’m really excited to do that, because I’ve performed them so many times that I feel like now I’m at my prime performing these songs and so I get to bring that to ‘Saturday Night Live.’ ”
Despite watching the show while growing up, Perry admitted that she was surprised at the size of the show’s stage, saying, “When you actually get here, you see the stage is tiny. Because you see it on TV all these times, and you’re like, ‘Wow. Look at what people have done with the stage,’ and when you get there, you’re going, ‘Oh my gosh, it’s as big as my bathroom floor. Now dance! Now perform!’ ”
While Perry is set to make her debut on the sketch-comedy show, there’s one show you won’t find her on: “Sesame Street.” The singer’s cleaned-up rendition of “Hot N Cold,” which was originally scheduled to air later this year, was pulled from the broadcast because of early complaints about the singer’s low-cut dress.

Fantastic Review: Let Me In

It’s cold, and there’s blood on the ground. There are empty streets to get lost in, but there’s a monster on the loose. Let Me In is nearly relentless in its tone of isolation and the chance of finding friendship in the eye of the puberty hurricane. There are few warm moments that emerge out of the kid’s eye view, and they’re as beautiful as the silence. In fact, the whole movie is an exercise in the careful crafting of something we can all relate to by using something none of us can. Owen (Kodi Smit-McPhee) is bullied at school, left alone by a mother more wrapped up in her own impending divorce, and concerned mostly with eating Now And Laters and acting tough with a kitchen knife in front of his mirror. Abby (Chloe Moretz) moves into the building, and Owen’s life changes. He has finally found a friend. And that friend needs blood to survive. The story being told here is a coming-of-age tale that adds the trouble of a permanently young girl and her middle-aged guardian hiding from a society that doesn’t like to be eaten. When Abby and Owen first meet, she exclaims calmly that they can’t be friends, and although they slowly develop an intimate relationship, there’s always going to be some truth to her claim. They are both disconnected in some way, and they find each other out in left field. The acting here is stellar. Chloe Moretz has proven herself repeatedly, but she [...]

Fantastic Review: Corridor

Tension and paranoia are difficult to capture. That’s probably why it’s a rare commodity in film – or maybe it’s simply because filmmakers don’t have the patience and restraint required to craft something so carefully anymore. Bold statements about the current temperature of moviemaking aside, it’s still both refreshing and horrifying to see the legacy of thrillers done so proudly with this flick. Corridor is Rear Window with sound instead of sight. It’s the story of a young medical student, Frank (Emil Johnsen), who keeps to himself, boarding up inside his apartment to study at night. When a woman named Lotte (Ylva Gallon) moves in upstairs, Frank is drawn into her life and her relationship with an abusive boyfriend. Frank hears the domestic violence through his ceiling and becomes a new target for the boyfriend (played by the always-unnerving Peter Stormare). Writer/Directors Johan Lundborg and Johan Storm (since it’s a contractual obligation to be named Johan in the Swedish film industry) have deftly created something gripping that will drive fingernails deep into theater seat arm rests. Frank is not necessarily a likable character, but he becomes an instant everyman as an innocent victim who uses incomplete information about the situation to finally fight back. Most are not used to true physical confrontation, and this movie plays on that deficit in our civilized world like a tiger with a mouse. It’s not a slow burn by any means. Even though it builds up from the beginning, it never drags or feels [...]

John Legend, The Roots Motivate Masses At NYC Show

Common, Jennifer Hudson, Estelle, Melanie Fiona join collective for ‘Unstaged’ concert steeped in soul at Terminal 5.By Jayson Rodriguez

NEW YORK — Over the course of his solo career, John Legend has proven to be as refined a singer as any of his R&B contemporaries, from Maxwell to Usher. But with his new collaborative effort with the Roots, Wake Up!, the velvety-smooth Legend showcases more gruff vocals amid the set’s 1960s and ’70s soul-drenched motivational music.
On Thursday night, John Legend’s full range was on display as he worked through his repertoire alongside Philadelphia’s finest at Manhattan’s Terminal 5. The show was the latest installment in American Express’ Unstaged concert series, this one filmed by Spike Lee. The collective marched out onto the stage in New Orleans “second line”-style and settled themselves in front of the backdrop, a massive replica of the Wake Up! album cover, which features Legend and the Roots in animated form performing on a non-descript block.

Legend dashed through his hits, from the pulsating “Green Light” to the crowd-pleasing “Ordinary People.” Estelle joined the festivities, subbing for Erykah Badu on the Roots’ “You Got Me.” Common and newcomer Melanie Fiona helped Legend bring the crowd to full-on screams with their current single “Wake Up Everybody.”
The Chicago MC was spry on stage, moving from side to side as he recited his lyrics. “It’s the God hour, the morning I wake up,” Com rapped. “Just for the breath of life, I thank my maker/ My mom say I come from hustlers and shakers/ My mom built it on skyscrapers and acres.”
Just when things were heating up, however, Legend pulled the plug an hour into the set, thanking the audience for coming out and quickly exiting to the backstage area. … Moments later, though, the smooth crooner reappeared onstage and his encore drew even louder cheers. An elegant Jennifer Hudson appeared join Legend for a duet, rocking the capacity crowd with her stunning vocals, which were as beautiful as she looked.
Legend closed out the show with “Shine,” a number from Wake Up! that also serves as the lead single to for the documentary “Waiting for Superman,” which opened Friday (September 24). “They wait to plead their case, unknown cast aside,” he sang on the moving track. “I love to see their face, can we spare the light/ Are we afraid to see the prisoners of yesterday?/ These beautiful minds, trapped inside/ Bring them back to life, let them shine.”

Ashton Kutcher?s Supposed Mistress: Friend of Demi Moore?

Still claiming she had an affair with Ashton Kutcher, Brittney Jones says she?s good friend with Demi Moore.
The 22-year-old could-be mistress has come forward to say that she and the ?Charlie?s Angels? actress know each other and are still on good terms.
Brittney explained, “I didn’t break up any marriage, in fact Demi and I are good friends.? However, this claim seems suspicious coming from the woman who also says she carried on a sexual escapade with Kutcher.
Jones texted a friend, “You should know what you’re talking about before you start talking s**t lol. Don’t believe everything you read about hollywood marriages,? followed by, “I didn’t break up any marriage in fact demi and I are good friends,? and, “Not talking s**t. Just having fun with a funny situation.”

T.I. Is ‘Gonna Be Fine,’ Pharrell Says

‘He lives a lot of his life on television — you’re bound to make a mistake,’ Tip’s King Uncaged producer says.By Mawuse Ziegbe

Pharrell Williams

Photo: MTV News

Back when T.I. was still a fledging MC crafting his 2001 Arista Records debut, I’m Serious, he teamed up with superproducer Pharrell Williams, of the hitmaking production outfit the Neptunes, for the album’s title track. Six albums, a label move and nearly a decade later, T.I. has become a hit factory unto himself, but he has also extended his already robust rap sheet.

He hooked up with Pharrell once again for his forthcoming album, King Uncaged, but his recent legal issues have steered the focus away from his hard-hitting music. When MTV News caught up with Pharrell, the producer who worked with Tip on his first mainstream offering and “talks to him every day,” he insisted the ATL king can still rule the game.
“He got the heart of a champion,” Pharrell told MTV News on Thursday (September 23). “Whatever happens, Tip gonna be fine, regardless. He got a good heart, and at the end of the day, he’s a human being.”
The producer cautioned fans against rushing to judgment, saying, “Let he who’s perfect cast the first stone.”
“He lives a lot of his life on television — you’re bound to make a mistake,” Pharrell continued, referencing T.I.’s recent arrest on drug possession charges. “If that’s what happened. We don’t know what’s going on right now. All we know is the fingers are being pointed, and I’mma stand by his side ’cause he’s a good guy.”
Pharrell pointed to Tip’s work with young people as one of the MC’s redeeming qualities.
“What you can’t do is take away any of the good stuff that he’s done for this world and done for the kids and his community,” he said.
“Sorry, you can’t take that away. It’s already done.”
Tip’s legacy of chart-topping club bangers and fiery lyricism can’t be denied either, and it appears that he refuses to slack off in the hits department, as Pharrell enthused, “the [new] album is crazy.”
The producer also spoke candidly about the delicate balance an artist like T.I. has to maintain in order to keep the fans happy, stack sales and maintain his artistic integrity.
“He’s got songs out there right now that are singles, but, you know, there are pressures in the world, certain things you can’t necessarily control. But his body of work … he’s got a crazy album,” Pharrell said. “I saw, like, 60 records, and almost every record that he played me was really incredible. Then there was the more poppier side of things, where the label kinda puts the gun to your head ’cause they gotta pay their bills.”
Although T.I. may have to relent to certain label demands with some radio-friendly jams, Pharrell said Uncaged will unleash the energy of their early collaborations together.
“Please trust, T.I.’s album is incredible, and he’s an amazing talent, and it’s been a while since we got together,” he said, adding that in addition to his work on I’m Serious, he also hooked up with Tip for the track “Freak Though,” from 2004′s Urban Legend. “It’s been a minute since then, and we really went in for old times’ sake, so, it’s pretty crazy.”
Are you looking forward to T.I.’s new music? Let us know in the comments!

Soulja Boy Remembers Vegas VMAs On ‘When I Was 17′

Jay Sean and Kristin Chenoweth also reminisce on this week’s episode.By Jayson Rodriguez

Soulja Boy Tell’em

Photo: MTV News

Although many young people toil away in anonymity with hopes of living out their dreams one day, Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em shared the stage with one of the biggest rappers on the planet as a teen.

“When I was 17, I flew out to Las Vegas to perform at the MTV VMAs with Kanye West,” SB describes in this week’s episode of “When I Was 17,” also featuring Jay Sean and Tony Award-winning actress Kristin Chenoweth.
The “Pretty Boy Swag” star, 20, was a special invited guest of Kanye’s during the 2007 Video Music Awards at the Palms. West was one of the few artists that night to perform in one of the themed suites instead of the house. SB, however, was restricted to a small room away from the action.
“We were up in this huge super-suite with alcohol, everything,” he recalls. “There were girls, all of that. But, they were telling me, since I was 17, I couldn’t go to certain areas of the suite. I had to stay locked off in one part of the suite until the show. So I stayed in this one little room. But it was fresh, though, because they laid it out: They had video games and snacks.
“Mind you, [I was] 17 and from the ‘hood, ain’t never had nothing,” SB added. “I’m in Las Vegas for the first time, so it was mind-blowing. I was doing all these things. We had a food fight. We were tearing the suite up!”
“When I Was 17,” — this week featuring Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em, Jay Sean and Tony Award-winning actress Kristin Chenoweth — premieres Saturday at 11 a.m. on MTV.

‘Green Lantern’ Star Ryan Reynolds Talks Sequel Possibilities

‘The first one has got to land and people have got to see it and have to have that appetite for a sequel,’ he tells MTV News.By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Ryan Reynolds

Photo: Getty Images

Aside from the buzz about Ryan Reynolds’ claustrophobia-inducing performance in the upcoming thriller “Buried” — for which Reynolds filmed all his scenes within the confines of a wooden coffin — the news about the actor has been almost entirely focused on his superheroic efforts in “Wolverine,” a possible Deadpool spin-off and “Green Lantern.”

When MTV News caught up with him recently, we couldn’t help but ask about possible “Lantern” sequels, as well as which comic book authors he found most helpful in getting into the character of Hal Jordan.
“It’s a pretty big universe; there’s a lot to explore,” Reynolds said of the “Green Lantern” sequel possibilities. “There’s a lot to explore with Hal, then without him. You could do a couple movies with Hal and then move on to Guy Gardner or Kyle Rayner or any of those guys.”
More “Lantern” without Hal Jordan — and Reynolds? Surely the busy actor isn’t ready to give up his ring that quickly.
“Look, I’m saying in success, let’s not put the cart before the horse,” Reynolds said, emphasizing the fact that the first movie has to come out and be a hit before he can start talking about sequels. “In success, you do another movie, you do two, great. I think [the idea of two sequels] is fantastic, but the first one has got to land and people have got to see it and have to have that appetite for a sequel.”
Fair enough. Regarding his go-to source for “Lantern” research, Reynolds cited famed DC writer/ current Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns.
“Geoff Johns is it,” Reynolds said. “His ‘Secret Origins’ book was the one I kind of used as the bible for this. It’s an easy thing to reference, because it’s an origin story as well. That was the one I sort of stuck to.”
Check out everything we’ve got on “Green Lantern.”

The FSR Fall 2010 Tuesday Night Watch List

While it may be the loneliest night of the week, some of the best franchises have come out of Tuesday night. Everything from NCIS to Law & Order: SVU have thrived on Tuesdays. It’s is also the first big night of the week for cable stations. This past summer alone saw six major hard hitting programs air against each other on various networks on this night. This fall is no different. So make sure those DVR remote batteries are fresh, because here comes Part III of the FSR Fall 2010 Watch List. Glee (FOX) Airs Tuesdays 8pm, Premieres September 21st The surprise hit of last season, Glee returns for its sophomore year. This season promises more of the same, singing, dancing and one-dimensional characters. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a fan of the show. But with things like the Britney Spears and Rocky Horror themed episodes planned, I’m slowly beginning to think the show is a one hit wonder. Watch It Live/DVR It NCIS (CBS) Airs Tuesdays 8pm, Premieres September 21st After last seasons completely awful finale, I’ve been left with a bad taste of NCIS in my mouth all summer. But the fact is, NCIS has dominated my 8pm Tuesday TV watch time every year since season 3. So this year will be no different. I really hope that things turn around in the premiere. And if you’re a fan of head slapping or the awesome Mark Harmon, tune in. Watch It Live/DVR It No Ordinary Family (ABC) Airs [...]

New ‘Harry Potter’ Trailer Shows Humor Along With Action

Footage features Harry’s oddly dressed doppelgängers and Dobby the house elf.By Eric Ditzian

Emma Watson and Rupert Grint in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”

Photo: Warner Bros.

The first trailer for “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” dropped in June and kept its focus squarely on action: whirlwind spells, explosions galore and plenty of boy-wizard-vs.-Voldemort fisticuffs. The second trailer, so it seems, will add a healthy dose of whimsy to the supernatural action.

USA Today has a sneak peek at the newest trailer, which is set to arrive online early Wednesday evening (September 22), and it looks like we’re going to get looks at Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) and his oddly dressed doppelgängers, Dobby the wrinkly-faced house elf and some wacky, warped-out, elevator-based magic. There will also, of course, be plenty of action, including a creepy glimpse of Voldemort entering the tomb of Hogwarts head honcho Dumbledore.
“These are dark times,” says Bill Nighy as Minister of Magic Rufus Scrimgeour in the trailer, according to USA Today. “Our world has faced no greater threat than it does today. But you can’t fight the war on your own, Mr. Potter. [Voldemort] is too strong.”
Harry’s going to have plenty of help. One of the new photos shows off Harry’s magical doppelgängers (variously, hilariously dressed in oversized coats and tight-fitting tops), which help our hero flee the nefarious Death Eaters. Other pics showcase Harry casting a Patronus charm while in an elevator, Harry and Hermione (Emma Watson) visiting his parents’ grave, and Harry and Ron (Rupert Grint) engaged in an intense argument while Hermione looks on.
“Ron and Harry are arguing and in conflict,” explained producer David Heyman. “The relationship’s become frayed. The pressure is on them, and their relationship has become heightened and more intense.
“We’re reaching the climax, so the relationship between the three is more intense,” he added. “They’re on the run, and they’re not in the safe confines at Hogwarts. The pressure is on them to sort things out. It’s ominous in the sense that the end is nigh.”

Fans can’t get enough of hip-hop’s golden child. Before the curtains were raised for the second night of Drake’s Light Dreams and Nightmares Tour, fans chatted with MTV News about what exactly brought them out to Miami’s James L. Knight Center on Tuesday night.
“Oh my God,” Ymaday Marichal said. “I’ve been waiting for this moment since summer.”

Marichal’s friend, Lindsey Perez, explained the measures the pair took to ensure they had seats at the sold-out show. “We bought the tickets, like, as soon as possible. I had to wake up at 9 to get the tickets and, really, I’m hoping that he does really good,” she said.
Light Dreams is Drake’s second headlining trek, after his extended Away From Home Tour earlier this year. And fans were clear about what they were hoping his set list would look like.
“Personally, I can relate to Drake the most — his music, everything he’s doing right now,” said fan Luis Delvalle. “He’s on top of the hip-hop game … Drizzy’s the man.” Delvalle went on, “Honestly, I’m a fan of Drake everything … I want him to do his whole album tonight,” he said, referring to the rapper’s successful Thank Me Later debut.
Other fans expressed similar sentiments, praising Drake’s overall style.
“I just really wanted to come out. I like his music. I like his collabs a lot,” Josh Matthews told us. “And I just like the way he puts it together. The show tonight is going to be amazing.”

Tyga Says Snoop Dogg, Game Showing Him California Love

‘I never asked for that West Coast stamp,’ Young Money rapper says of fellow Cali MCs blessing his LP. By Shaheem Reid

Tyga

Photo: Alexander Tamargo/ Getty Images

Celebrity Favorites: Tyga
Tyga just started touring with Drake and he’s enjoying a spike in his fanbase as a result of his surprise smash with Chris Brown, “Deuces.” The Young Money MC may even go out on the road with Brown later this year. But when conversation turns to his still-untitled second album, Tyga says he’s in no rush to deliver it: He has a game plan.

“I’m thinking, I don’t wanna set no date on it,” the Los Angeles rapper told Mixtape Daily during a recent trip to New York. “I wanna let Nicki [Minaj] do her thing right now. Her album comes out November 23. Christmas is cool for me, January, February. I got songs; all my records and my singles, everything is timed up.
“I just dropped ‘I’m on It,’ which was a good way to start. But this next record, it’s gonna be my official record. That needs to be ‘Jam of the Week,’ ” Tyga said, giving a nod to MTV Jams. “It’s called ‘Really Raw.’ It’s me featuring Pharrell, Snoop and Game. The video is outta here — it’s gonna be a remix with Diddy screaming on it. It’s gonna be crazy. Remember I told you that.”
Tyga says the collaboration with Snoop Dogg and Game just “kinda happened.” The Pharrell-produced track was already done when Tyga’s OG homies decided to jump on it.
“I never asked for that West Coast stamp,” he said. “A lot of people don’t know I’m from the West Coast. My swag is different. Me being from Young Money, affiliated with them, some people think I’m from down South. They think maybe I’m from New Orleans like them. It’s just good to show people and build outside of Young Money, build my brand outside of that. I think [Game and Snoop], they just respected it. I feel like too many people on the West Coast, they’re too needy. They feel they need Snoop or Game. I never did any tracks with any West Coast artists. Not because I didn’t want to, but because I didn’t feel like that’s what I had to do in order to get on. I just did music. That took me far enough to where Game and Snoop got on that record.”
Tyga revealed that Snoop was the first to bless him with guest vocals.
“The record was already done,” Tyga recalled. “Snoop came to the studio and heard it; he got on it. Then the next day, Snoop called Game and said, ‘I did a record for the little homie.’ Then Game came in and said, ‘I’m not just gonna let you have Snoop on it.’ It just became classic.”
Apart from Snoop, Game and Skateboard P, Chris Breezy and Young Money will also make appearances on Tyga’s sophomore LP.

Is ‘The Town’ Oscar-Bound After Box-Office Win?

Brisk ticket sales, critical buzz make Ben Affleck’s Boston drama an Oscar hopeful.By Eric Ditzian

Slaine, Ben Affleck, Jeremy Renner and Owen Burke in “The Town”

Photo: Warner Bros.

“The Town” floated out of the Venice Film Festival on a cloud of Oscar buzz, and heading into the weekend, most box-office prognosticators expected Ben Affleck’s drama to win the #1 spot.
But who could have predicted that “The Town” would net $23.5 million, a September record for Warner Bros.? Now there’s no doubting that the guy who once starred in “Gigli” and “Jersey Girl” has a serious Oscar hopeful on his hands.
“Typically September releases turn out to be Oscar frauds,” said Jeff Bock, box-office analyst for Exhibitor Relations. “Not so with ‘The Town,’ as it has the reviews and b.o. to not only talk the talk, but walk the walk. Being #1 at the box office always helps the cause of any film, as it garners massive amounts of media attention.”
Affleck’s Boston bank-robber tale is not only a contender for one of the 10 Best Picture nominations, but could land a nod in an acting category as well. “Either Jon Hamm or Jeremy Renner could easily end up in the Supporting Actor category,” said BoxOffice.com editor Phil Contrino, citing the film’s robust ticket sales.
Another Boston-centric crime drama, “The Departed,” opened to similar numbers and critical acclaim in 2006. The Martin Scorsese film eventually nabbed five Oscar nominations, including Mark Wahlberg’s nod for Supporting Actor, and won four of them (including Best Picture and Best Director). Few would argue that Affleck’s movie will mirror the awards-season success of Scorsese’s, but as Contrino notes, “The Academy has a history of rewarding crime flicks that catch on in a major way and ultimately transcend their genre.”
Oscar chances aside, what’s most remarkable about “The Town” is the fact that it made so much money with stars not nearly as high-profile as the ones in “Departed.”
“Affleck, Renner and Hamm are certainly no [Leonardo] DiCaprio, [Jack] Nicholson, and [Matt] Damon,” Bock said. “That’s why the debut of ‘The Town’ is all the more impressive. Affleck achieved this opening on concept, not star power, which is becoming increasingly more potent in Hollywood of late.”
Much credit is due to Warners’ marketing machine, which went to great lengths in TV ads to position “The Town” as more genre thriller than critical darling. “The ads punched up the proceedings by making the picture look (not just sound) like ‘The Departed’ and by using the Eminem song ‘Not Afraid,’ ” noted Brandon Gray of Box Office Mojo.
Box-office success, of course, is not always a requirement for Oscar love. Just look at “The Hurt Locker,” which won Best Picture over “Avatar” this year despite an anemic box-office showing. When the new nominations arrive early next year, we should expect a similar grouping of “Hurt Locker”-style small fare and “Avatar”-esque blockbusters.
“With 10 nominations for Best Picture, more than ever there are opportunities for smaller films and major blockbusters to be in the mix. One of those films is ‘Inception,’ which is a shoo-in for a Best Picture [nod],” Bock said. “This year we will see a mix of both types of films, but odds are, we won’t have a smaller film win the award two years in a row, since it’s never happened before ‘The Hurt Locker.’ ”

‘Catfish’ Trio Discuss Controversial Documentary’s Aftermath

‘We just wanted to start a conversation with this film,’ filmmaker Henry Joost tells MTV News.By Kara Warner

Nev Schulman

Photo: MTV News

Audiences are still talking about “Catfish,” the 2010 Sundance darling and one of the year’s most heavily hyped documentaries. Now that the film has opened in select theaters across the country, more and more people are joining in on the “Is it real?” debate, as well as looking into the nuts and bolts of how the film came to be.

In brief, the documentary revolves around NYC-based photographer Nev Schulman and the series of curious events that occur when he begins an online friendship with a precocious 8-year-old artist from a small town in Michigan and a romantic relationship with her older sister.
When MTV News caught up with filmmakers Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost, along with Nev, we asked them — without spoiling anything — how the film’s supporting characters are doing back in Michigan.
“Things in Michigan are good,” Joost said. “We still have friends there, and they are becoming involved in the marketing of the film in a cool way, designing posters. We’re pretty excited about that.” Joost also said those friends were part of a small art show tied to the film’s New York premiere.
Regarding the strong reactions both audiences and critics have had to the film, Joost said there is a common theme.
“I’d say maybe not the most common reaction, but a very common reaction is ‘Wow. Now let me tell you what happened to me; let me tell you what happened to my friend or my cousin or my mom,’ ” he said. “It’s incredible how many stories there are like this out there, and I think the film is kind of an open door to tell those stories now, that are sometimes embarrassing but often lead to good things.”
Joost added that their goal in making the film was to just get people talking.
“We just wanted to start a conversation with this film and just continue the conversation we’ve been having in the editing room for two years,” he said.
What do you think of the buzz surrounding “Catfish”? Did the film make you rethink your approach to social networking or online relationships at all? Let us know in the comments!

Disc Review: Connected

Ever wonder why there are so few remakes of American films by foreign filmmakers? Hollywood churns out five remakes per week, but the favor is rarely returned. Are the rights too expensive? Is it a judgment call on the quality of our homegrown films? Are they taking a moral stand against remakes in general? I don’t know the answers here people, but it’s interesting to think about nonetheless. Not coincidentally, here’s a look at a new DVD release for Benny Chan’s Connected! It’s a Hong Kong action film based on the 2004 Chris Evans/Kim Basinger thriller Cellular. That film was arguably better than its pedigree and plot would suggest, and that trend continues here. Director/co-writer Chan has made some minor changes and improvements in character and events, but the core story about a woman in need of a hero and the stranger forced into the role stays the same. The Movie: Grace Wong (Barbie Hsu) is a single (and insanely cute) mother who drops her daughter Ting off at school one morning, but is t-boned afterward on the way to work by some baddies in an SUV. They kidnap her, kill her housekeeper, and toss her in a shack in the middle of nowhere before demanding she tell them where “it” is. She has no clue what exactly “it” is so they threaten to pick up little Ting after school to help jog the woman’s memory. Grace is able to cobble together pieces of a broken phone and restore it [...]

‘The Town’: The Reviews Are In!

Critics heap praise on Ben Affleck’s Boston crime drama and applaud performances by Jon Hamm, Rebecca Hall, Jeremy Renner.By Eric Ditzian

Who could have predicted, around the time an afro’d Ben Affleck was whipping ’70s slackers with a wooden paddle, that the guy would morph into a serious and respected director? A lot has changed since 1993′s “Dazed and Confused.”

Three years ago, Affleck delivered “Gone Baby Gone,” an impressive and surprising first directorial effort that earned Amy Ryan an Oscar nod. His sophomore feature, the crime drama “The Town,” is attracting early Oscar buzz after debuting at the Venice Film Festival earlier this month. On top of its critical praise, the film is looking to compete with Emma Stone’s teen-friendly “Easy A” for this weekend’s box-office crown. Not bad work for a guy who once had a reputation for being a beer-pounding meathead.
Here’s what the critics are saying about “The Town.”
The Story
“Affleck has cast himself in ‘The Town’s’ lead role of Doug MacRay, a native of Boston’s tough Irish Charlestown neighborhood, which as an opening title card informs us, has produced more bank and armored car robberies than any place in the United States. Doug and his best friend, Jem (Jeremy Renner), are lifelong members of one of Charlestown’s most notorious and successful crews, a team that methodically goes about its thuggish business with a combination of workaday professionalism and swift, vicious violence. When the guys rob a bank and take a manager hostage, the episode sparks a series of events that leads Doug to question whether he’s ready to leave Charlestown’s tribal life of murder and mayhem. Meanwhile, he’s being pursued by an FBI agent (Jon Hamm) who’s determined to make the choice for him.” — Ann Hornaday, The Washington Post
The Director
“Affleck also seems more confident and at ease in the director’s chair this time around and less like the actor with something to prove. The film’s palpable authenticity is less self-conscious than it was in ‘Gone Baby Gone,’ and Affleck is able to create a strong enough sense of verisimilitude to allow us to buy into the film’s unlikely premise.” — Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times
The Performances
“Renner and Hamm play stock characters, but their performances elevate the roles to something more. (Renner, as he proved in “The Hurt Locker,” is an especially convincing psycho.) [Rebecca] Hall is a fantastic actress, good in everything she does. She portrays perfectly the confusion and vulnerability of someone violated, as well as the hope one might find in a budding relationship. Of course, we know more than she does, which makes it all the more heartbreaking. But Affleck is the center of the film. His Doug is, in some respects, rather like Affleck — the director of the elaborate heists, as well as a performer in them…. It’s a measured, strong performance, certainly one of Affleck’s best. Perhaps he can credit his director.” — Bill Goodykoontz, The Arizona Republic
The Dissenters
“There’s a decent movie in ‘The Town,’ though this adaptation of the Chuck Hogan novel ‘Prince of Thieves’ stretches out to a misjudged 130 minutes. Two hours plus change isn’t long, really. Plenty of films, and not just epics, justify three or more hours. Here, though, just when the screws should tighten, we get another leisurely dialogue scene, and hammy inevitables, such as the protagonist, played by Affleck, telling his less stable partner in crime, played by Jeremy Renner of ‘The Hurt Locker’: ‘Ya been like a brutha to me.’ ” — Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune
The Final Word
“Affleck nails the rhythms of coexistence between neighborhood crooks and regular Joes. His instincts are also right in casting Renner in the role of Jem, the local baddie with a short fuse, and letting the effortlessly magnetic actor steer the pace of the action, hinting at danger even when Jem’s just nursing a brew. With the thrum of unromanticized eff-’em he brings to the part, Renner supplies the jolt that keeps Affleck on his toes, both as an actor and as a director. ‘The Town’ is the good work of a guy on a path of discovery, with Boston as the artist’s own Freedom Trail.” — Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly

Free Movie Monday: Heavy Metal

Because we?re all too broke to go to the theater or afford gold-plated rental services, FSR is offering free movies every Monday for the month of September. If this title doesn?t strike your fancy, head to Crackle.com to see what else they have for your viewing pleasure. The selection is great, and even better ? the price is right. If you haven’t seen Heavy Metal, there’s a solid chance that your brain is still in its original, unmolested state. That’s a shame. The flick is an animated joy ride in a stolen vehicle through a universe filled with glowing green orbs made of pure evil, irate cab drivers in Dystopian New Yorks, graphic alien sex, laser beams, large-breasted warrior maidens, brilliant O’Bannon tales, and the heavy sounds of Blue Oyster Cult, Devo, Black Sabbath, and Cheap Trick. It’s a veritable celebration of good old American know how and alien worlds. If you love it, you know you want to see it again. If you haven?t seen it, you owe it to yourself to stop reading my ramblings and go watch it. As anthology films go, this is one of the classics. It refuses to play by any rules and acts like a forerunner for great sci-fi trips like The Animatrix. There’s been talk of a reboot of the film with a group of modern sci-fi masters, and even though that would be as incredible as seeing Kenny from South Park roll around the world of Taarna, the original would still [...]

The Town Steals the Top Spot from Resident Evil

Ben Affleck’s Boston bank robbery saga took top place this weekend, as The Town opened with $23.8 million, de-seating a Resident Evil sequel, an Emma Stone’s debut as the lead in a teen comedy, and a story “from the mind of M. Night Shyamalan.” Easy A landed second, with an estimated $18.2 million. Costing only $8 million make, it’s already a success.  Devil debuted third with $12.6 million, which wasn’t the opener Universal had hoped for, but since the film was low-budget, it still has a good chance at covering the gap. Resident Evil: Afterlife dropped to fourth place this weekend, pulling in an additional $10.1 million for a 2-week domestic total of $44 million. Paul W.S. Anderson’s 3D installment did stay at number 1 internationally though, earned an additional $38.7 million for an international take of $103 million. Fifth place belonged to newcomer animated tale Alpha and Omega, which earned $9.2 million. Take a closer look at the numbers for the Top Five this week below! The Town – $23,800,000 Easy A – $18,200,000 Devil – $12,584,000 Resident Evil: Afterlife – $10,100,000 Alpha and Omega – $9,200,000

So far Katy Perry and her fiance Russell Brand have been totally secretive about the actual date of their wedding day, but we think it must be any day now, because Katy had her bachelorette party this weekend. “Jackass 3D” is not even in theaters yet, but one of its stars, Johnny Knoxville, is already talking sequel. Knoxville says the crew shot so many high jinks for the movie, opening October 15, that they couldn’t get them all in. But Knoxville has plans for the scenes left on the cutting-room floor.
“Man, we filmed so much stuff. So much great stuff got left out of the film because we just overshot,” Knoxville explained to MTV News. “That’ll be in ‘[Jackass] 3.5,’ coming out at Christmas,” he said of a DVD release.

Blake Lively Compares ‘The Town’ And ‘Green Lantern’

Actress relished the chance to play a ‘dark’ role in the drama and a fighter pilot in the superhero flick.By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Blake Lively

Photo: MTV News

“Gossip Girl” star Blake Lively has been expanding on her Upper East Side roots of late. She landed the coveted role of Carol Ferris opposite Ryan Reynolds’ Hal Jordan in “The Green Lantern” and can be seen holding her own with Ben Affleck and Jeremy Renner in this week’s “The Town.”

When MTV News caught up with the leading lady recently, we asked her how the effects work and acting requirements differed between the two very different roles.
“With all the special effects, you’re in a big soundstage with blue walls and the world you’re acting opposite will be created months after you’re finished shooting,” Lively said of her work on “Lantern.” “So to watch that will be a very different experience, because I don’t know half of what I’m going to see. It’s so exciting, seeing all the visual arts and all the amazing effects they’re creating and the main characters they’re creating. I cannot wait to see it, because that’s one of the most important elements in our story.”
Regarding “The Town,” Lively said there’s really no comparison because there’s no CGI in the movie.
“Everything you’re seeing, we were doing in the moment,” she explained. “You’re just playing off of each other, a lot of reacting and a lot of improv. It was a very different experience, but both [movies] I just treasure so much. To get to do a role like this that is so dark and so different and so broken and then to go be in a superhero movie opposite such amazing actors and an incredible director, and not just be the damsel in distress, be a fighter pilot, be his boss at the company, to play women with strengths are the characters I’m most attracted to.”
But will moviegoers — specifically the always-knowledgeable fans of the “Lantern” source material — get to see any signs of Ferris’ eventual villainy in the film? “No, not yet,” Lively said. “Well, I mean, there are always winks and homages to certain things in the comics for the fans, but I don’t think you know yet how evil she turns.”
Are you more excited for “The Town” or “Green Lantern”? Let us know in the comments!

?Tinker, Tailor? Grabs Mark Strong, Stays In the Cold War

While the question of whether Let Me In is going to live up to Let the Right One In, the more important question is when we’ll get to see Tomas Alfredson’s new project – Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. The easy answer is: next year. The right answer is: not soon enough. Now, the inspired cast of Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, and Tom Hardy is being added onto by Mark Strong (who will also be appearing as Sinestro in next year’s Green Lantern). It’s also been confirmed that the story will stay firmly in the Cold War era, as novelist John Le Carre intended it. Has there ever been a more highly-anticipated film with so many commas in the title? [The Playlist]

Lady Gaga Fans Speak Out Against ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’

Singer posts online videos of fans urging senators to repeal controversial policy.By Mawuse Ziegbe

Members of the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network join Lady Gaga at the 2010 MTV VMAs

Photo: Jeffrey Mayer/ Getty Images

When it comes to the repeal of the U.S. Armed Forces’ controversial “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, Lady Gaga is proving that she’s not giving up without a fight.

Gaga, who has often used her celebrity to speak out in favor of gay rights, recently launched a campaign to prompt lawmakers to repeal “Don’t Ask,” which bars openly gay Americans from serving in the military and has prompted the discharge of thousands of servicemembers. She walked the VMA white carpet with former members of the military who were kicked out because of their sexual orientation and she has been tweeting with high-profile politicians such as Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. The pop icon has also blasted Arizona Senator John McCain for his attempt at blocking the repeal of the measure.
On Friday, Gaga released a video statement explaining her views on the policy, imploring several senators to vote in favor of the Defense Authorization Bill which contains language that would lead to the repeal of “Don’t Ask,” and actually picking up the phone and calling New York Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand. She closed the video urging viewers to address their senators and support Reid in his efforts to bring down the policy.
And when Mother Monster speaks, her fans listen.
Gaga released another video linking to over 30 thirty video clips from young people voicing their dedication to changing “Don’t Ask.”
“Hi everyone, this is Gaga. Hello Senator McCain. I’ve been on the internet all day watching videos that have been sent in to repeal ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,’ Gaga says. “It’s overwhelming, it’s emotional and quite honestly I can’t believe it. So, I wanted you to see them. Please watch, here they are,” the megastar says before blowing a kiss.
A playlist featuring fans from around the country follows the taped statement, beginning with a message from Alicia, an openly gay fan who recounts her experience in the military.
“I chose to serve, I did not choose to be gay,” Alicia says. “Please repeal ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.’ It is difficult enough to find soldiers, sailors and airmen who have the honor, courage and commitment to serve.”
Alicia insists that the policy contributes to a culture of fear among servicemembers, and recalls going to extreme lengths to fit in, including marrying a man and later “contributing to the near 75 percent divorce rate in the military.”
In a video posted from the account 5awesomemonsters, one young woman declares, “It’s not fair that in the world that we live in today, society is much more OK with two men holding guns, than men holding hands.”
A pair of friends, Lauren and Ellie in Colorado, sent a video showing fans how to call lawmakers, before leaving a voicemail for Senator Michael Bennet and getting their neighbors to ring up the politician as well.
The calls apparently worked as Senator Bennet later responded with his own online video pledging his support for the cause.
“Thanks for your advocacy [and] making sure your voices are heard. It’s so important for you to be involved in our democracy,” Bennet says. “So, my answer to you is that I support the repeal of ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.’ ”
User americanpie3491 posted a video in which a young lady cheerfully calls Michigan Senator Carl Levin to thank him for his commitment to repealing the law.
Evan in Indiana filmed a video after calling politicians Evan Bayh and Richard Lugar and asking them to support fellow senators Reid and Levin.
“A person’s sexuality has no impact on their ability to serve and defend our country,” Evan says. “I hope you take this message into consideration and remember that you have been elected to be my voice.”
Florida resident Diana suggested that the policy is inconsistent with other U.S. laws, such as the Civil Rights Act of 1964, aimed at combating discriminatory practices in the workplace.
“Other places we work at, we’re not able to be discriminated against because of marital status, religion or sexual orientation,” Diana states. “What makes it OK to discriminate against soldiers who are fighting for this country for democracy and are willing to give their lives for this country?”
Rachelseesfireworks put up a slideshow featuring a young woman holding a series of white placards, including one that read, “They serve your country with their heart, so why can’t they use that same heart to love whomever they want?”
“If you’re under the impression that one person is less valuable than another because of their sexual orientation, you are very wrong,” Alexander Michael says in his video, before ringing his senator. “If they are willing to die for this country, you should give them the equal opportunity as another person.”
Gaga fan inesthomasine explained why she believes it’s important for young people to get involved in the movement.
“We are the generation that needs to have our voices heard,” she says. “Because if we choose not to, we will live with the consequences for years to come.”
What do you think about Lady Gaga and her fans’ campaign to end “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”? Let us know in the comments!

Trailer: Kevin James Gets Cheated on in ?The Dilemma?

Before he falls down comically for the MMA film he’s making, Kevin James is going to have to fall down the good old fashioned way. In The Dilemma, the film adaptation of the song “Silence is Golden,” James stars alongside Vince Vaughn, Jennifer Connelly, and Winona Rider for the story of a man who sees his best friend’s wife cheating and has to figure out what to do. Do you say something or stay silent? The trailer makes this thing look incredibly plain, or at least incredibly lacking in a story. The concept is an interesting one, but a story full of inaction might be difficult to translate. Still, there’s more than a good chance that Vince Vaughn is playing at another Breakup style role that’s a bit more heartfelt than purely comedic. That’s a good thing. The most surprising shot in the trailer is Ron Howard’s name in the credits. The trailer might be misleading, but this looks nothing like a Ron Howard movie. With a big franchise, that might be a scary prospect, but in this case, it’s another reason to be optimistic about what looks like something completely paint by numbers. What do you think? See it in hi-def at Apple.

Drake Calls T.I.’s Legal Issues An ‘Unfortunate Situation’

‘The trouble he gets into doesn’t reflect the person he is,’ Drizzy says.By Shaheem Reid, with additional reporting by Sway Calloway

There was one conspicuously absent person Sunday night during Drake’s performance of “Fancy” at the VMAs. Drizzy had special guests Swizz Beatz and Mary J. Blige join him onstage, but the other person who performs on the album version of he record, T.I., was not there. Tip has been dealing with matters more important than entertainment lately.

T.I. was arrested for alleged drug possession in Los Angeles at the beginning of this month, and there is a chance that his probation could be revoked.
While rehearsing for “Fancy” at the VMAs, Drake sat down and reflected on his friend’s circumstances.
“I care about Tip a lot,” Drake said. “He’s held me down since the beginning. He’s always been extremely nice to me and embraced me. Before he went to prison, to this day, I still talk about the conversation he had with me about the game and trying to stay focused.
“It hurt me the other day that somehow he found himself again in that kind of predicament. Especially with [the success of the movie] they just had out ['Takers']. It’s a personal thing. I’m not really here to say things about another man. Tip is a very smart man. I just think that, a part of me wishes he realized the power in the movement he has and what a legend he is and not get in trouble anymore. I just wish that wouldn’t happen. The man that he is, the trouble he gets into doesn’t reflect the person he is. He’s just a great individual. Yeah, it’s an unfortunate situation,” Drake continued.
What do you think about Drake’s thoughts on T.I.? Let us know in the comments.

All right, Beliebers: We know you’re still digesting Justin Bieber’s VMA performance, Best New Artist win and Canadian reunion with Drake on the white carpet, but now we have some more info about your favorite teen heartthrob. His 3-D concert movie is due February 11.
Deadline first reported the big news from Paramount on Wednesday (September 15), but MTV News has been following the film’s development since its inception. Director Jon Chu told us the film is for Bieber’s fans and that it won’t be just a typical concert movie.
“[It's] a movie for his fans, a movie for people who don’t know him, and we’re gonna tell the underdog story of where he came from,” the “Step Up 3D” director explained. “Because it’s a really fascinating story and it has a lot to do with our sort of digital lifestyle now. He was able to do what corporations try to do now when they use YouTube and they don’t even know what to do with it yet. It’s a pretty cool story for our time.”
Chu said his goal is to make the film a blend of concert/biopic/documentary. “There’s not going to be acted-out scenes, and I can’t talk about the rest. It’s not your typical concert film and it’s not going to be a biopic … but it is about his life. I think it’s more of a documentary. We’re going to figure it out as we go,” he said. As for how much of it will be in 3-D, he said, “You’ll have to see it. We’re figuring that out now.”
The Biebs has a lot on his plate. In addition to the film, he is working on his new video for “U Smile,” his memoir hits bookstores in October, he’ll appear on “CSI” next week and is also said to be involved with Will Smith’s upcoming top-secret movie.
